“A Secret to Happy Life” – Pastor Sidney Yen

- A mom like you
- OBEDIENCE
- Your Grace is enough
Pastor Sidney’s message to the children: “A Secret to Happy Life.”
Ephesians 6:2-3 – “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” (NIV)
I would paraphrase the promise ‘you may enjoy long life’ to ‘you may have a happy and long life.’ The verse is a key for us to open the secret to a happy and long life. What’s that secret? “Honor your father and mother” Is that this simple? Yes, this is God’s promise from #5 of the ten commandments. So ‘Honor’ has everything to do for this Mother’s day for you. Remember, this is not just only a command, it’s a sure promise from our loving God.
The following words have everything to do with how we celebrate Mother’s Day.
First, Honor our mother: what we can do at home, at school, at the church? When you show good deeds in front of people, will your mom get people’s praise? Remember, do good things, show good behavior, show your loving kindness, honesty, faithfulness, you honor your parents and give glory to God.
Second, when we respect our mom which in the way is to show our obedience and trust not to do what she says no, but do willingly what the routines and requirements she set for us. Respect is one of the ways to honor our mom. Respect helps us to Honor.
How about encourage? Oh, our moms are always so brave in action all the time for you, they are doing their best for you and for your family. Wow! moms are superwomen. Wait a minute, Your mom is only a human, she would be weak and frustrated in some points. She needs words of encouragement every day from people around her especially from you. She needs your applause, as well.
So, when finishing the meal, show you really enjoy her cooking and appreciate her love and effort. Give good comments for the plants she cares in the yard, any others you can think of how to encourage your moms. No one could replace you to say an applause and to give an encouragement to your mom, it’s only you can do to her. When you give your encouragement to your mom, you are honoring your mom personally. And it pleases God, as well.
Therefore, in conclusion, I would answer the question “what’s the secret to happy life?” The answer is ‘Honor your Mother (and father) from your heart, you may have a happy and long life.” This is a command and a promise from our holy God.
How can you honor your mother in your daily life, to give her respect, to encourage her. Can you make it? Sure I am sure you would love to do it and you can do it, as long as you have a willing heart and the Holy Spirit will remind you and help you to achieve it. “Honor your mother and father,” is the first commandment with God’s promise. Well, what’s the promise? Yeah, the promise is to have a happy and long life.
Honor your mom and respect her and encourage her all the time!
